Specification for busbar and equipment connection

Jun 06, 2025

When connecting the busbar to the equipment, a series of specifications and requirements must be followed to ensure the reliability and safety of the connection. These regulations not only involve the size of connections, the number of boreholes, but also the selection and use of fasteners. Following these regulations can ensure that the connection between the busbar and the equipment is both firm and stable, thereby ensuring the normal operation of the entire power system.

① When using bolts for the overlapping of rectangular busbars, it is necessary to ensure that the distance between the connection and the edge of the support plate of the post insulator is not less than 50 millimeters. At the same time, the distance between the end of the upper busbar and the starting point of the flat bending of the lower busbar must also be controlled at 25 millimeters or more.

② The overlapping surface of the busbar must be finely processed to ensure that it is flat and free of bumps, scratches or oxide films, and the four corners of the end and the surrounding area of the section need to be chamfered. After processing, the reduction in cross-section of copper busbars should not exceed 3% of the original cross-section, while that of aluminum busbars should not exceed 5%.

③ When connecting the busbar with bolts, flat washers with galvanized layers must be installed on both sides of the busbar. After tightening the bolts, it should be ensured that the length of the exposed busbar is between 2 and 5 pitches, and the bolts used to connect the busbar should have the nuts placed on the maintenance side.
