How to measure the quality of nickel sheets in batteries

Jul 09, 2024

There are various methods to measure the quality of nickel sheets in batteries, including color resolution, specific gravity, chemical resolution, resistance measurement, visual resolution, and tensile testing. ‌

Color discrimination method: By using a sharp blade to scrape the connecting piece about 5-8 times, observe the color change of the scraped surface of the connecting piece. If it appears golden or golden red, the connecting piece is a nickel plated copper piece. ‌
Specific gravity method: Under the same size and volume, the specific gravity of pure nickel connectors and nickel plated iron connectors is about 1.15 times. Nickel is heavier than nickel plated iron and can be distinguished by measuring the weight on an electronic scale. ‌
Chemical discrimination method: Cut several connecting pieces and place them in warm water containing refined salt, let them stand for four to five hours, and observe the color change of the salt water. The light green ones are nickel plated copper sheets; Yellow plated iron sheet; Pure nickel sheets are those that do not change color or slightly turn yellow. ‌
Resistance measurement method: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance value of the connecting piece, and compare the resistance values of different types of connecting pieces with the same thickness, width, and length. The pure nickel sheet has the lowest resistance value, while the nickel plated sheet has the highest resistance value. ‌
