How to distinguish between pure nickel and nickel plated sheets?
Jul 16, 2025
Due to the fact that nickel metal is a relatively precious metal material, and nickel metal is also a type of ferromagnetic material, both pure nickel and nickel plated iron sheets attract magnets, so magnets cannot be used to distinguish between pure nickel and nickel plated iron. Therefore, many merchants in the market often use nickel plated iron sheets to deceive and confuse users in order to earn high profits, resulting in serious losses for users. The following methods can roughly distinguish the material of the connecting sheet for customers.
1. Color identification method:
Use a sharp blade to scrape the connecting piece about 5-8 times, and observe the color of the scraped surface of the connecting piece. If it appears golden or golden red, the connecting piece is a nickel plated copper piece.
2. Specific gravity method:
Under the same size and volume, the ratio of pure nickel connectors to nickel plated iron connectors is about 1.15 times. Nickel is heavier than nickel plated iron and can be distinguished by electronic capacity.
3. Chemical identification method:
Take a glass teacup, add half a teaspoon of refined salt, pour in warm water to make salt water, cut a few connecting pieces and put them in, let it stand for 4-5 hours to observe the color of the salt water. The light green ones are nickel plated copper sheets; Yellow plated iron sheet; Pure nickel sheets are those that do not change color or slightly turn yellow.
4. Resistance measurement method:
Take a length of several meters and use a 4-digit multimeter to measure the resistance value of the connecting piece. Compare different types of connecting pieces with the same thickness, width, and length. The one with the lowest resistance value is a pure nickel piece, and the one with the highest resistance value is a nickel plated piece.
5. Visual discrimination method:
The manufacturing process of pure nickel sheet does not require electroplating, so its surface is relatively flat and smooth, but the color is slightly dull and dull; The nickel plated sheet, after electroplating process, presents a slight sand pattern on its surface and has a relatively shiny silver white color.
