How to clean nickel plated copper?
Jul 25, 2025
When cleaning nickel plated copper (nickel plated copper materials or copper parts), it is necessary to balance the protection of the nickel plating layer and thorough cleaning of the surface. The following is a step-by-step method
1. Preparation before cleaning
Judging the status of the plating layer: Confirm whether the nickel plating layer is intact. Damaged areas are prone to corrosion and require careful handling.
Protective measures: Wear gloves to avoid scratching with hard objects.
2. Cleaning steps
Method 1:Gentle Cleaning
Neutral cleaner+soft cloth
Mix warm water with a small amount of neutral detergent.
Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution and gently wipe the surface. Stubborn stains can be slightly soaked.
After rinsing with clean water, immediately dry with a dry soft cloth to prevent water stains.
Method 2: Remove oxidation or slight rust stains
White vinegar or citric acid solution
Dilute white vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, or use a 5% citric acid solution.
Dip a soft cloth and wipe the blackened/oxidized area for ≤ 2 minutes.
Rinse with clean water and thoroughly dry to avoid acid residue.
Method 3: Stubborn stains or oil stains
Alcohol or acetone
Dip a cotton swab in anhydrous alcohol or acetone and wipe off the oil stains locally.
Quickly rinse with clean water and dry.
Method 4: Professional Polishing
Nickel plating special polishing paste
Apply a small amount of polishing paste on a soft cloth and lightly grind the surface in circles.
After polishing, use a clean cloth to remove any residue and avoid prolonged friction.
